Are you a planner or are you aspiring to be? It can be difficult at times when you plan and plan and plan and yet, things don't go as you planned.
If you've got it all mapped out and you've done all the research, it can be really frustrating. But is there anything you can really do about it?
I want to challenge you to take a step back and focus more on the vision and who you need to step into and be how you need to show up in order to make the plan happen. A lot of times, we planners get very focused (maybe even a little obsessed) on the specifics. So much so, that we'll focus so much on the how and forget about the vision.
So I know it might sound a little out there, but if you actually take a step back and focus on the big vision, the how will figure itself out. Sometimes we can be so driven in one direction that we miss out on a great opportunity.
Here is what to do when you've "tried it all."
Almost all of my clients (and I) are high-achievers. And I find it so funny that because since we are high-achievers, we are also extreme researchers. A lot of us are analysts at heart.
When we set our minds to something we really dive in and research all the things.
When we're talking through a problem, we say, “I've read all the things. I know what I need to do.”
But sometimes (or often) it doesn’t work as we expect and we get stuck. It’s very frustrating because we’ve already done all of the analysis and planning and so we don’t know where to turn.
You've already tried everything, right?
When this happens we need to take a step back and get to the root of the goal/program. If it's not working, what else can you try?
The main problem is that we can get so stuck in research mode, what other people are doing, and we think it should work for us too. We need to remember it is not a...
Building your perfect work cocktail
Remind yourself that you can do both -- create the perfect work cocktail
It doesn’t have to be a drastic shift or change.
Tips to take action today:
Journal it out - braindump your ideas
Take one tinyyyy step. Ask yourself:
1. What do I miss doing/want to add?
2. What is one small step I can take toward adding that in this week?
If you feel like something is missing take a step back, ask yourself these questions, then start creating your perfect work cocktail.
The full fulfillment picture looks different for everyone.
Design and blend it up your way.
You can design a life you love.
What do I miss doing, what can I add, that would make me feel more fulfilled?
So I had this vision on my heart for a while.
I didn't think it was possible.
I doubted my capabilities. (Hellooo imposter syndrome and over thinking!)
Then 2017 hit.
It was a rough year for my family and I.
It also helped me realize that the idea and vision I was ignoring was no longer something I could to sit on.
I needed to create this. I couldn't ignore that "something is missing" feeling.
So I started and took one a small step.
And another. And another.
The past few years have taught me that time is way more previous than we realize.
I also learned I am way more capable and stronger than I realized.
And SO ARE YOU.
Part of this vision was bringing Designed Life Studio to life. Going on three years and this vision has official become a reality.
I shared some of my story in the this week's vlog.
Please know it is not to late for you to start on your goals too.
Give yourself permission to be a beginner again, find...
Have you found yourself saying "I'll be happy when..."?
Maybe waiting for the next big thing? I can say I've definitely said this before (on more than one occasion).
Take a listen to this week's vlog if you find yourself wishing and waiting for the next goal, achievement, person, or thing to come.
Don't let perfection hold you back from going after your goals.
My love, it's called a rough draft for a reason.
Give yourself permission to grow and learn as you go.
Journal Prompts on this Topic:
What am I telling myself needs to be "perfect" before I can get started?
What is one thing, one messy step, I can take to move my goal forward?
What do I look forward to learning during this process?
Channeling Courage Over Confidence.
Often we thing we can start that "new thing" when we feel confident or ready enough to do so. But what if you decided to go for it now? To show up courageously, make it happen, and allow yourself to grow along the way?
Best case scenario, what if it's even greater than you imagined AND through the process you gain even more confidence?

New motto for the month --> "I am doing this for my future self."
I noticed my routine was slowly getting off course and decided it was necessary to go back to the basics this past week. Focusing on simple self-care habits!
And so far these simple steps have been amazing. One key piece is saying this new motto over and over again. So I wanted to share this new motto/mindset with you too:
Setting the coffee maker the night before rather than in the morning -- doing this for my future self
Taking off ALL makeup, brushing and flossing no matter how exhausted I am -- doing this for my future self
Making time to meditate -- doing this for my future self
Swapping out cocktails/wine for a seltzer or tea -- doing this for my future self
Putting the phone down/closing the laptop and being present when you spouse or family member is talking -- doing this for OUR future selves
Making the bed as soon as we wake up -- doing this for my future self
Going for a walk...
This video shares the two initial questions you should ask yourself when feeling stuck at work (or life).
1. What do you currently love about work? What brings you the most energy and excites you?
2. What would you change if you could?
The questions may sound simple, but the reflection takes a little work. With your answers from these initial questions you can start designing and creating work that you love rather than staying at the "good-enough" job that doesn't fulfill you.
